From Riva Tez on How I Write
Riva Tez backs the center as a rare group doing primary source work. Tez donates to the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts. She calls it one of the few groups doing primary source work on manuscripts.
She says this on her How I Write conversation about Every Angel Is Terrifying.
The center's scholar helped Tez doubt the standard Codex Sinaiticus story. Tez thought the Wikipedia account of the Codex Sinaiticus sounded fishy, so she read the primary sources and the scholar who still studies them. She questioned the claim that monks burned an expensive parchment Bible, since texts are usually buried. That gave her an essay thesis that the manuscript was probably doctored in the 19th century.
Her takeaway is to go to the original documents when a received story feels off and see what it skips. Quote: "how many times have people gone like, well, I'm just going to go look at the primary sources on this, right?"
