From Anne Lamott on A Writing Room
What was said about A Writing Room
A Writing Room gives members one writing prompt every morning, often a childhood memory. The workshop is run by Anne Lamott's son and has about 700 writers. Each morning it posts a prompt, and Lamott cites it as a source of prompts like 'There was a tree'.
Lamott calls childhood the great prompt and cites Flannery O'Connor's line that surviving childhood gives you enough to write about forever. She says that if you write down 'there was a tree' you could write for days. Her related advice is to list every childhood memory from your earliest years. She also passes on Abigail Thomas's prompts: list 10 things you have forgotten, then 10 you remember, then something you wish you hadn't said.
