Dictation accuracy checker
Paste what you meant to say and what the dictation app typed. You get the word error rate, the same measure speech researchers use, with every wrong, missing and extra word marked.

How word error rate works
Word error rate (WER) is the standard measure of speech recognition. It lines up the two texts with the fewest changes, then counts:
- Wrong words (substitutions): the app typed a different word.
- Missing words (deletions): a word you said isn't there.
- Extra words (insertions): the app typed a word you didn't say.
WER = (wrong + missing + extra) ÷ the words you meant. It can go over 100% when the app adds many words. Everything runs in your browser: nothing you paste is sent anywhere.
This is how we scored six Mac dictation apps in our dictation accuracy benchmark, where the error rates ran from 7.0% to 25.5% on the same clips. Test your own app on your own words: names, places and the jargon you use are where apps differ most.
