Milk Road

Milk Road tested each topic with a voice memo before writing it. Shaan Puri trained a first-time writer, who had never blogged, by having him voice-memo the news each morning before writing anything. Anything he would never say to a friend was cut before it reached Milk Road's 200,000 readers, and after editing him for 30 days Shaan handed the newsletter over.

The writer had been choosing boring subjects just because they were in the news. Shaan: "If it's not interesting in the voice memo, it's definitely not going to be interesting in long text." It fits his broader rule to say a story out loud first and then write down what you said.
