Johann Hari locks his phone in a K-safe to protect writing attention. Hari can lock his phone in a K-safe for up to a whole day and uses it eight hours a day. He uses it to protect the attention he needs for writing.

He pairs the lock with blocking social media. He also leaves his phone at home for an hour's daily walk with only a notebook, which he says is almost always the most creative hour of his day.
