How I WriteWriting Formulas Everybody Should Know (Mark Forsyth Interview)
At a glanceMartini's slogan is a group of three built for an ending
  1. 1Any timeFirst item sets the pattern
  2. 2Any placeSecond item repeats the pattern
  3. 3AnywhereThird item ends it, same as 'place'

From Mark Forsyth on tricolons

What was said about Martini

  • Martini's 'any time, any place, anywhere' slogan works as a tricolon. Mark Forsyth points to the line as a group of three in which 'place' and 'where' are basically the same word. It says little, yet it sticks.

Forsyth says three is the shortest group that can have a conclusion, so a tricolon lines things up for an ending. He adds that advertising picks up these formulas by instinct, and sums it up with "we love groups of three".
