In short

OpenClaw, an open-source agent setup, showed demand for bots with real tools that act like colleagues. Claire Vo reportedly shut down all her OpenClaws for Grok Bot, since its home VPN plus Mac mini setup won't scale to millions. Anthropic ended subscription use with it because compute is scarce. One creator ran an OpenClaw coach trained on million-view videos, used daily. Lesson: hide power-user complexity and plan for compute costs.

What was said about OpenClaw

  • OpenClaw showed demand for bots with real tools that act like colleagues. Grok Bot's team saw OpenClaw as proof of product-market fit for bots with real tools and AI as colleagues. Its home VPN plus Mac mini setup won't scale to millions of users or to businesses, and Claire Vo reportedly shut down all her OpenClaws to switch to Grok Bot.

Grok Bot was built to remove that hacky setup. It also hides power-user abstractions like skills and slash commands, making skills background primitives that bots create and use. Quote: "they should never have to type a slash command."

  • One OpenClaw agent coached creators using notes on million-view videos. In a creator Discord, an OpenClaw agent was trained on text from every video above a million views. Creators ask it for scripts and ideas, and it pattern matches on what worked. Many creators use it daily.

Each video went through Gemini for a transcript and summary, and the text is stored locally for the agent. It also pulls TikTok trending keywords through ScrapeCreators to fit trends, such as the Olympics, to scripts. Quote: "it just knows the ones which work. And then it's sort of like pattern matches and makes a new script"

  • Anthropic stopped subscriptions from working with third-party tools like OpenClaw. Compute is scarce and the Claude Code harness wasn't built for the usage patterns of third-party tools like OpenClaw. Users were given credits to ease the transition.

Anthropic framed the call as prioritizing first-party products, settled by asking which option matters more for its mission. Cat Wu said: "If Claude Code failed, but Anthropic succeeded, I would be extremely happy."
