A 16 million view Menace post barely moved its App Store ranking. Menace, a prank-style app, got a 16 million view TikTok post that did little for its App Store rank. Views alone did not translate into downloads.

By contrast, some apps get a top 100 jump from a one million view post. In the same comparison, 7 million views got no more than a 170 rank.

Judge short-form formats by App Store rank movement, not by views. Line up the dates of viral outlier videos with an app's ranking jumps, ideally across several countries at once. Movement in many countries signals organic rather than paid traffic.

Look for repeated cases where a one million view post lifts the ranks and a later post in the same format lifts them again. Quote: "you want to get the most bang for your buck cuz so difficult to make 5 million views".
