An AI chip company.
From Tony Fadell on early deep-tech investing
Tony Fadell backed Groq early, before the AI chip market got hot. Fadell cites early bets on Groq and Cerebras as examples of investing in deep technology before a market is hot. His view: "When it's already hot, it's already too late to be in it."
His firm looks for deep technology that unseats incumbents by being fundamentally different, not just better on features. Many such bets, including AI plus robotics, needed years on product-market fit, marketing and a version 3.0 before taking off. Other examples he gives are Simbe Robotics (retail inventory robots, around 7 to 8 years in) and Recursion for drug design (10 years). He also says software-only companies are being questioned, while companies combining atoms and software have staying power.
