The bottom line

Coursiv earned $1.8M in its first year by sending social ads to a web quiz and paywall instead of the app store. Web-to-app funnels let education apps personalize, pressure and convert users in ways app tracking no longer allows.

Key takeaways

  • Coursiv reached $1.8M in lifetime revenue within about a year of launch. 0:46
    • It earns roughly $250,000 a month, and its best month was June 2025.
    • Ads run on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Google, and every ad clicked led to a web checkout.
  • Ads send users to the web, where they convert before they ever open the app. 2:36
    • One Instagram ad says Teenagers are building businesses with AI while the only AI you know is ChatGPT.
    • The landing page opens with social proof (700,000 users, 4.5 rating) and a simple yes or no question.
  • A long personal quiz builds commitment and shows which answers lead to paying users. 5:46
    • Questions about age, goals and AI skill let the team track which answers give the best trial and conversion rates.
    • Asking how many minutes a day the user will commit raises retention, a number Duolingo has reported.
  • A long paywall with scarcity and social proof pushes the user to buy now. 8:59
    • A personalized promo with the user's name and a 10-minute countdown offers $20 a month, and the price jumps to $40 when time runs out.
    • The paywall adds a live count (203 people purchased in the last hour), a per-day price and a money-back guarantee, which works better than a trial on web.
  • Web funnels are becoming the main way to acquire app users as Apple limits tracking. 16:25
    • The verification email returns the user to the same landing page with the promo and a fresh timer.
    • Education and fitness apps suit this model best, and the web price ($20) undercuts the in-app price ($29 to $30).

I think that's going to definitely be the future of app acquisition, especially as Apple has made it harder for us to track within their app.

Chapter summaries

0:00 What the revenue trend shows

Month-by-month data shows when Coursiv's growth came, not just how big it got.

  • Monthly charts show when growth came 1:26
    • Downloads, revenue and ratings can each be viewed month over month.
    • Downloads and ratings peaked in January, while revenue climbed again in June.
    • Other revenue platforms give a total, not a monthly trend.
    • The June revenue jump fits the channels the app unlocked, and its ads now appear almost everywhere on social media.
    • The creator told his team to learn AI so they can build more apps, and sees this as a beginner-friendly way in.

2:56 The landing page and the paywall

A web funnel depends mostly on its first and last pages.

  • The landing page and the paywall matter most 4:16
    • Users drop off once the quiz starts, but these two pages decide the result.
    • The landing page shows a person matched to the viewer, such as a man for a male user.
    • A female viewer might see a woman instead.
    • The web flow is close to the in-app flow, so the web side is the one worth studying.

4:34 The quiz onboarding

The quiz sorts likely buyers from the rest, then turns the answers into a personal plan.

  • Reading screens between questions keep the quiz from feeling like work 5:16
    • After the fear-of-falling-behind answers, a "worry no more" screen promises to rebuild confidence.
    • Asking "is AI too hard to learn?" shows who will convert: a "yes" likely buys, a "no" likely does not.
    • Even for users who already know AI, the app says it will show things they don't know.
    • The advice is to avoid making users act on every screen.
  • The quiz ends with a personal AI profile, a dream goal and an email request 7:11
    • The profile shows where the user is and where they can get, a device common in fitness apps.
    • A goal question, such as saving for a home, frames the app as help with life goals, not only skills.
    • The email is needed to tie the web user back to the app.
    • The readiness question matters because users who aren't ready are hard to win over.
    • The personal challenge runs from July to September, so the plan spans more than one month.
    • Inside an app, an account is normally unnecessary. On the web it is the only link back.

8:54 A long paywall that explains the offer

On the web, a long paywall that sells paid benefits and shows other buyers does the persuading.

  • Web paywalls need to be long so users can read what they get. 9:17
    • After the name, it shows a readiness score of 83% and a four-week program.
    • It eases in with AI is easier than you think.
    • A long paywall works in the app too, but it isn't necessary there.
    • Skip the free versus premium features table. Describe what the user unlocks when they pay.
  • A live purchase count works as social proof, even if the number is invented. 10:17
    • Web plugins can add this, and it is rare in apps.
    • One client uses it and sees good results.
    • The number could be a made-up number, but that is up to the app maker.
    • The paywall repeats the user's own goals, such as professional growth and smart retirement.

10:43 Personalized offer and price framing

Small personal touches and a low daily price make a standard plan feel special and cheap.

  • Adding the user's name and the month makes a plan look like a personal coupon. 10:47
    • It isn't technically a coupon code, just a plan shown with a name.
    • It is easy to build: grab the name, add a string, set a 10-minute timer and a changeable price.
    • It made the user feel the offer was made for them.
    • The same setup works for any price.
  • A per-day price hides how much the monthly cost is. 11:19
    • He bought another app at 71 cents a day and didn't notice it was $20 a month.
    • He fell for it and was charged the monthly price.
    • He still calls it a real discount against the in-app price.

12:37 Expiring offers and loss aversion

Taking an offer away makes people want it more, and a return path lets them buy it back.

  • Losing the offer makes users want it again, and the email brings them back. 12:55
    • He once debated a used car for ages, and it only felt urgent after it was gone.
    • After the timer ran out, he checked his inbox to verify and returned to the offer.
    • Users end up feeling they want it whether they want it or not.
    • The email was collected early in the quiz, so the loop costs nothing extra.

13:57 Inside the app and the niche lesson

The app content suits curious beginners, and it shows why starting niche beats starting wide.

  • The lessons cover practical AI tools for newcomers. 14:03
    • Topics include ChatGPT prompt engineering, content creation and Jasper AI.
    • There are also joinable challenges, such as a no-code challenge.
    • He wants to learn how to turn his team's YouTube videos into long-form text.
  • Apps should start with a narrow niche and widen later. 15:00
    • Begin with box breathing, then move into meditation, instead of fighting Calm and Headspace.
    • Most developers start wide, saying it's for everybody, then narrow down.
    • He liked the niche builder lesson most.

16:00 Web onboarding as the growth channel

Education apps should test web-to-app campaigns.

  • App onboarding mirrors the web flow, so the web flow is what matters. 16:00
    • He has seen a few other education apps run web-to-app campaigns.
    • A Google ad for the app points to the same web funnel.
    • The few differences between app and web onboarding are minor.

CP Young, Founder of App Masters, app marketing agency. A teardown of how the Coursiv AI learning app runs a web-to-app funnel: ads to a landing page, a long quiz onboarding, and a personalized, time-limited paywall. The app reached about $1.8M in lifetime revenue in its first year, with roughly $250,000 a month at its peak.

Coming up, I'm going to break down an AI learning app that has generated over $1.8 million in its first year of launch. Stay tuned. What is up, App Nation? It is CP Young, founder of appmasters.com. And if you're just new to the AI space, it is a gamecher. And one of the best ways to learn all about AI is through an app that we're about to break down for you today. I'm going to share with you what's working really well for them, their growth channel, and things they might be able to improve upon. So, without further ado, let's get started.

0:46

All right. The app is called Corsive. Here it is right here. And thanks to our friends from App Figures who have given us this number. But you can see they're doing about two over $250,000 a month. And I'm going to kind of show you something really cool within App Figures. So here's App Figures. You can see the revenues and you can see the lifetime revenues of $1.8 million. And the launch was since April 25th. All right. Really amazing stuff. and their best month was in June of 2025. So, as of this recording, they've been doing really, really well since they've launched. And you can see what I really love about app figures is unlike other platforms that show you revenue data, you can get a sense of how well they've done month over month, right? And here you can go downloads as well, see month over month.

1:40

And then the cool thing is ratings month over month, which spoiler alert, they all peak at the same time. So, the downloads peaked in January and so did the revenues, right, a little bit, but revenues have really come in in June. So, they've unlocked some channels and I've seen their ads everywhere. So, hence why I wanted to create this video to kind of break down what they're doing, right? Because they're I've seen ads on YouTube, on Instagram, on probably Facebook if I was there, but I've seen their ads almost everywhere that you can possibly be on socials. So, let's get into how they've been able to achieve this success. Here's one of their ads. This is an Instagram ad that I got. Really, really cool. I like the messaging here. Teenagers are building businesses with AI while the only AI, you know, is chat GBT. And they kind of tell you like, hey, here's all the little things that you are missing out

2:32

on. And I love it, right? Like for those who aren't familiar, they're like, oh, wow, this is very interesting. Now, for the audience out there who might not be so AI oriented right now, it's a great beginner. And one of the things that I've said to my team is go learn about AI. See how we can use AI to build more apps. And this is a great way to get started. So, I'm going to this is one of the ads. I hit learn more. And what Cors is doing really well is using web 2 app campaigns. Now, we've done some videos about web two app campaigns, and I'm going to link them up into the show notes as well, so you can check it out, but this is what they're doing. So, they're taking an Instagram ad or a YouTube ad and taking you to the web.

3:17

They're trying to actually get you to convert on the web versus the app, right? And it's a great way to do it, especially for like educational fitness apps. We're all moving towards this web to app campaigns. And so that's why I wanted to really focus more on their web to app channel versus their app flow, which is not that much different than what you're going to see right now. So they're very similar. Okay. Now, with web to app campaigns, the first page, this landing page is one of the most important pages. And some of the best elements that they have on here is they have social proof. So 700,000 users rated 4.5 on trust and then having a person right here. Now they probably know I'm a male, right? And so they have a dude on here. If you're a female, you might see a female. So hey, have you used AI before? Yes or no. Simple yes or no question to get you started into this journey. Now this this is the most

4:16

important also the payw wall. And I'm going to break down the pay wall. So stay tuned for that. Those are the most two important pages. You are going to see drop off once the quiz, the onboarding starts, but these two are the most important. The first page and the last page, frankly. So, more than 700,000. Some social proof. I'm going to hit continue. What's your age? This is important stuff to get users interested. Asking for a user's age is very important because it will start to highlight who your age demographic is as well, right? What is your main goal? For me, it was just like professional growth, right? Like I need to know, are you overwhelmed? Sometimes, right? Are you comfortable? I like that. No, I'm pretty comfortable with it, but I do struggle at times. Are you afraid to fall behind? Not really, but yes, sometimes. Yes. So, what they do is worry no more. They ask you a bunch of

5:08

questions. No, worry no more will help you gain your confidence back. Continue. So, you want to sort of balance between asking questions and then having the user read. So, you don't always want them to be doing actions on this onboarding. All right, next page. Do you think that it's too hard to learn AI? No. Great question because you can see no. It's too hard. It's not hard for me. Probably those users aren't going to convert, right? But yes, all the time those people are probably going to convert. So, those are interesting questions to ask. Do you think you to you need to know program to learn AI?

5:45

Nope. Never. Not really. Rate your AI knowledge. Cool. Again, have you used ChatGpt? Yes, I use it very much. What are some tools that you're familiar with? So, that's good intel. Right? These are important questions because you can start to tailor your audience towards some of these answers because what you ultimately want to be doing is tracking the answers to all these questions and seeing which ones have the highest trial activation rate, the tri the highest conversion rate. Right?

6:17

So they here again they give me a break. Great to hear that you already know AI blah blah blah blah. Give me some ways that hey even though you know AI already show you some things that you might not know. What income range aligns with your current career goals? Hey little error here corsive. Have you considered how AI skills could impact your career? Of course who hasn't? And then I'm going to kind of move forward. This is the other screen that I'll pay attention to. What other fields would you personally like to try yourself? For me, it's development.

6:47

Like, I want to use AI to develop. I think I know how to use it for content creation, but we can get better at it. But development, content creation for me is the most interesting, right? Your readiness, this is important, too, because you want people who are pretty much ready to go, right? If they're not, then it's probably going to be hard to win them over. Do you find it easy to maintain a focus? I'm not sure why they asked this, but interesting enough.

7:11

Here's your AI profile. And I love these things and you see this a lot with fitness apps. It's like, hey, here's where you are. Here's where we can get you to. Okay, continue. Is there something else you want to achieve? I think they're trying to get me into like, hey, dream, right? Like goal orient like, hey, if you're trying to save up for a new home, like we're going to help you with that, too, right? Like it's like this is beyond just learning new skills. This is also helping you with other goals that you want to achieve. I think that's what this question is all about. Okay, last which is this is very important. How much time are you ready to spend to achieve your goal? Now, Dualingo already reported this. This is an important number that will impact your retention, right? Add this on here because the when people hit a high number, for me, I put like 15 to 20 minutes a day, but when people do commit to a goal, they're more

8:07

likely to stay within your app. So, I love this screen. And I think every app should have this. All right, here's your AI personal challenge based on your answers. Here's where you think we think you can be. July and then September, you'll be an AI master, right? Pretty cool. And they have it more than one month. They want me on for a while. Continue. They ask for an email, which is very important if you're doing web 2 app campaigns, right? I normally say, hey, you don't need to create an account. If you're in the app itself and having gone through the app, you won't see it, right? But on the web, because you have to tie the user back into the app, you need their email. So, they ask me for their email, they ask me for my name right here, and then they say, "Hey, it's ready to go. You ready?" So, when I hit continue, this is where the payw wall is going to happen. Now, I really like when they ask me for the

8:59

name, and I'm going to show you a cool little trick that they're using. Okay, so here's the payw wall. says get my plan which just takes you through the pricing paid plans. Here's now here's your goal. Again, this stuff works. Okay, your readiness score is 83%. Not too bad. Four-week program. So, this is a long payw wall which works very well on the web. You need to have long pay walls because they need to read and understand what you're going to get on the app. It does work pretty well on the app itself, too, but not necessary.

9:30

But on the web, definitely necessary. So, as I'm scrolling up, AI is easier than you think. So, they're telling me, they're kind of easing me into this, right? As I'm continue to scroll, here's what I love, too. Try Corsif and you will. And this is what I say, you know, on these long pay walls. I when I first talked about it, I talked about having a features table that talked about here's the free plan versus the premium plan. I would X out the features table and just lean into here's what you're going to unlock when you pay. So really just talk about the paid benefits versus the free benefits. Okay, if you do a long pay wall. Okay, so here was my goal. So like professional growth, your target, smart retirement, good to regurgitate some of those things.

10:17

Lastly, I love this. 203 people purchased personal AI learning plans in the last hour. This stuff works. There's plugins on the web called Prooley that allow you to do this, but this really works and I don't see it very often in an app. We do have one client that's using it, but he's seen really good success with that. Guess what? It could be a madeup number. Okay, but that's up to you. Okay, but anyways, I really love this. Okay, choose the plan that's right for you. Now, here's the cool thing.

10:47

They used my name and the current month and said, "Your promo code applied. Here it is. For the next 10 minutes, you have this." I really love this. It made me feel like this was personalized. They're using my name with just a date. Super easy to implement. Frankly, you're just showing me a plan, right? It's not technically a coupon code. That's not how I would build it. If I was building, let's be like, hey, grab their name, add this string on here, and put a 10-minute here's the pricing, right? So that it can be adjustable to anything. Okay, I love this. Now, the other thing I want to point out is showing per day pricing really works well. I did it, okay, I fell for that trap. I bought a different app on the web on their web to app campaigns because I was like, you know what, that's pretty cheap. 71 cents per day, you know, why not? I wasn't paying attention to the $20 per month, but I

11:37

was charged for it. And so anyways, I think it really works well and it is a discount. So on the web on the app when I was going through it, it is 29 $30 per month, but on the web, this coupon is real. It is 20 bucks a month. And I'm going to tell you if this 10minute is a decoy or is it for real? Okay, I'm going to scroll up again. Money back guarantee. Love this. If you don't like it, we'll give you money back. Works really well on the website of things, too. better money back guarantee works better than giving a trial on the web.

12:09

That's how what I would do. Scroll some more. Here's what you get. It's a super long pricing page. And then we're at the very end. Okay. So, did you catch it? Which I pointed it out. This one, the 203, just to recap, right? Having some social proof, having people see that others are buying. You know, Amazon has this too, right? Then here, that personalized coupon code. I really, really love that tactic. All right, really cool for both. Now, what happens when my time expires? Here it is with my 9-minute. Here it was without the 9minute. It actually the promo went away. So, here it was 20 bucks and then I waited the 9 minutes just to see what happened. It went up to 40. So, I like it. Right now, you want that loss aversion. For me, when I had that, I was buying a new car or a used car and it was something I want and I was debating it for the longest time and then it went away and I was like, "Oh, shoot. I

13:09

really want it." So, when you take something away, users then ultimately feel like whether they want it or not. All right? And guess what? On their emails, when they had to verify, it took me back to this landing page. So, they sent me an email, right? Because I gave it to them early on right here. They said, "Hey, verify your email." When I hit verified, it landed me back on this page with that promo code and the 10-minute again. So, I really like the way it did this because obviously I had this opportunity to buy. When the time's up, it went away. Now I'm like, I want this again. I go check my email in my email box. It's waiting for me to verify my email. And then boom, I'm back on that landing page with the the promo code applied. All right. So, really great app. Let me go into the app itself and I'm going to show you some of the cool things that the app has. Okay, so full disclosure, Corsif gave me free

14:06

access to the app. So I have the free access and I'm going to show it off to you as well. Now this is really meant for me as I'm looking through this. It's really meant for those who are just interested in learning about the new AI technologies. So this could be my wife as an example or my son as an example who might not who might just be learning about AI. I love this chat GBT prompt engineering techniques and then it's about content creation. So that's one that I'm interested in. Here's one that I want to show you guys. Jasper AI. I've heard about them but never started using them. Something that I want to do for my team is how do I create long form content right here, right? We have all these videos. We have all this great knowledge that we're sharing on YouTube that could easily be text. And I told my team like, can we turn some of these videos into text? So, this is one that I'm going to be fascinated about. And

14:57

there's some marketing stuff here, too. This niche builder, go check this out because I think that's the most interesting, right? I talk about being more niche and how it's easier to start niche and then slowly go up. Whereas most developers start wide and then start to go down, right? Like they're like, "No, it's for everybody." I'm like, "Look, start with your target market, that niche, and then work your way up." So best examples I can give you is start with a breathing exercise, deep breathing, box breathing, and then move into meditation instead of starting at meditation and then being like, okay, I'm for everybody and I'm going to fight against calm and headsp space, right?

15:37

That's the easiest example I can give you. So, a lot of great content right here. There's some challenges here. This is one that I'm going to be fascinated about this no code challenge. And you can join these challenges as well and then go on. Right? So, super simple stuff that you can do. And this is one that I'm going to be kind of going through myself. All right. That is it. Again, the app on boarding is very similar to the web on boarding.

16:05

Not too many differences, but I really wanted to show off the web on boarding because it is their primary growth channel. All the ads I've clicked on for Corsive have been taking me to their web checkout. So if you're an educational app and I've seen a few of these, really consider web to app campaigns. And I think that's going to definitely be the future of app acquisition, especially as Apple has made it harder for us to track within their app. These web campaigns are really going to pay off for you as well. So, if you want to learn more about the web to app campaigns, I'm going to link that up into the show notes and the info card. And go check out Corsive. And thank you to Corsive for giving me free access to the app.

16:46

But it's a great AI learning app. If you're just new to AI, go check it out. Corsive.io. Guess what? Like I told you, they're advertising everywhere. This is one of their Google ads. You can see it's working. But cors.io right here. And just hit get started up here at the top. And you're off and running. So, you can go through my funnel as well. All right, that is it. If you've got a video that you want me to create or a topic that you want me to cover, well, just leave a comment below. Make sure you like that video because you know what? YouTube wants us to do that as content creators.

17:22

All right. And if you're looking for an app marketing agency to help you grow, well, check out our website, appmasters.com. We are the most affordable, most effective app marketing agency out there. That is my mission and I think we're close to accomplishing it. We've already accomplished it. All right, until next time. I'll see you on the next video.
